Kids are normally born with quite a lot of longsightedness, which reduces until they are 5 or 6, and in most cases there is no need to correct it. Most kids are reviewed at birth or soon after by pediatricians or maternal child and health nurses who are skilled at detecting any serious problems.

In a small number of children, they have an asymmetry between their eyes, or have an issue with the eyes not sitting straight, or rarely a medical condition that needs treatment, surgery or glasses.

If in doubt, bring your child along and I can assess and explain what next steps will be.

I have great relationships with eye specialists who are experts in children’s vision, and if we are suspicious, then a referral can be arranged to see one of them.

Even if your child has no complaints, it is a good idea to get them checked before school, so if they need any help, it can be done before they start school.
